How to Obtain a Builder's License in the Queensland (QLD)
In Queensland, to apply for a builder’s license, the appropriate category is the Builder – Low Rise. This license includes both a contractor’s license and a site supervisor license.
Experience Requirements
Bricklaying/Block Laying or Carpentry: If you are qualified in these areas, you must have at least 2 years of experience in the scope of work for this licence class (or equivalent work that the Queensland Building and Construction Commission deems acceptable).
Other Applicants: If you are not qualified in the above trades, you will need a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the licence class scope of work (or equivalent work deemed acceptable by the Commission).
Additional Requirements:
You must provide written references from three licensed builders who can verify your supervisory experience.
You may need to supply additional information or make a declaration confirming that you meet the minimum financial requirements, including having sufficient net tangible assets to ensure your business is financially stable.
